Relay for Life started in the 80’s when Dr. Gordy Klatt of Tacoma, Washington decided to support his cancer patients by raising funds through running marathons. 

More recently Klatt created Relay for Life, 24-hour fundraising event for cancer research. Because “cancer never sleeps,” teams of 15 camp overnight while taking turns walk around the track.
