Shrubbery Stolen, Knights Who Say 'Ni' Remain at Large

Unusual police incidents in Fairfield County.

A snapping turtle found in a parking lot at 447 Purdy Hill Road in Monroe at 11:26 a.m. on May 16 was captured and released in a location that is safe from traffic, according to police. More sightings should soon be expected, because June is known as "Snapping Turtle Month", a time when female turtles leave the water and travel several miles on land, so they can lay their eggs. The turtles then return to the water. *** A Monroe family who found a snake at approximately 9:54 a.m. on May 13 thought it was a baby Boa Constrictor, but an Animal Control officer identified it as an adult Milk Snake. *** Since using his credit card at Job Lots in Seymour, a Monroe man has reported two fraudulent attempts to make $3,000 worth of charges on it and …

Fire, Fireworks Explode; Easton Home Burns in Minutes

Firefighters from Newtown, Stepney, Trumbull, Easton, and more fight massive fire on Judd Road.

The sounds of explosives and fireworks rocked the quiet wooded neighborhood of Easton bordering on Monroe on Friday.  A tall pillar of smoke seen for miles away heralded the fire to many, who followed trucks to the corner of North Street and Judd Road. Chief of Police James Candee said the owner’s collection of explosives hampered the ability of the firefighters to approach the house and fight the fire. The owner of the house, Sandy Cooper, 507 Judd Road, Easton, was not known to be at the scene, but police officers said that all family members were safe and not in the house. Monroe Firefighters Assist in Fighting Easton Blaze

A fire was reported at a house on Judd Road in Easton at around 6 p.m.

EASTON — Several residents living on the Hattertown section of town saw smoke and heard sirens and a series of explosions at around 6 p.m. Friday. A house fire was reported on Judd Road in Easton — near the Monroe border. Kevin Catalano, spokesman for the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, said the explosions people heard were from fireworks stored inside the house. Tankers from Monroe's fire companies and other towns were brought in to assist the Easton Volunteer Fire Department with tankers, because there are no hydrants in the area, according to Catalano.

Son Assaults Father in Weston

Weston Police news, May 8 through May 14.

A 22-year-old Weston male, who lives on Tobacco Road, was charged with assault in the third degree following a domestic incident with his father on Sunday, May 13. According to Weston Police, the son was acting out of control and was confronted by his father about his behavior. The son had locked himself in his room and refused to come out when his father asked him to, saying that if he came out he would beat his father up. The father asked him to come of the room again and he did, proceeding to strike his father. The father left the residence and got the rest of the family out as well. The son was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.

Two Youths Get Alcohol Poisoning in Redding

Juveniles with alcohol On Friday, May 11 at 8:58 p.m. police responded to a home on Black Rock Turnpike where there was a party taking place. According to police, adults at the residence contacted the Redding Police Department and Redding EMS after becoming aware that two 14-year-old males—one from Redding and the other from Easton—both students at Joel Barlow High School, were drunk. “We believe that the youths got the alcohol somehow on their own,” Police Chief Douglas Fuchs said. “We do not believe that the adults at the residence were aware. Once the residents recognized there was an issue, police and EMS were summoned.” Fuchs said the kids brought alcohol, concealed it and then drank it.  “When the parents found out about it, they …

Mary Kennedy Found Dead in Bedford Home

Police are investigating the death of Mary Kennedy of Bedford.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed to Patch that the death at 326 South Bedford Road this afternoon was that of Mary Kennedy, the 52-year-old wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.  Bedford police responded to the residence at 1:36 p.m. to investigate a possible unattended death.  The Kennedys were married in 1994, but Robert Kennedy, Jr. filed for divorce in May. That news of their split followed a string of negative reports about the Kennedy family, including a 911 call from the residence which led to police filing a domestic incident report, and another police call to the house for domestic incident involving the children, followed by a drunken driving arrest outside of the St. Patrick's School carnival. Weston Woman Charged with Theft from Cousin

She reportedly made a fraudulent withdrawal from her cousin's bank account, police said.

It does not indicate convictions.] A Weston woman was charged with fifth-degree larceny after she allegedly used her cousin’s ATM card to withdraw $979 when she only had permission to withdraw $300, police said. According to the report, Rachel Johnson, 36, of Steep Hill Road in Weston, fraudulently withdrew from her cousin’s account to the point of a negative balance in August after her cousin offered to let her withdraw $300 from the account, police said. The cousin, a Fairfield resident, reported the theft to police. When police interview Johnson, they discovered she lives with her elderly mother who said Johnson may have taken money from her but did not …

Easton Man Charged With Domestic Assault

Easton Police news, May 8 through May 14.

A 59-year-old Easton resident, who lives on Palmer Place, turned himself into police on Monday, May 14, responding to a report of a December 2011 domestic violence incident. Joseph Philbin was charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct, according to Easton Police.  He was released on $25,000 bond.

Authorities were arresting a man on nine outstanding warrants when he allegedly couldn't pay his $500 strip club bill, when he told them the White House would be calling to inform them of his Diplomatic Immunity. The White House never called. *** A woman is accused of stealing $1,084 in merchandise from Kohl's in Trumbull on May 6. Police said she put clothing in bags, entered a dressing room and walked out holding the bags. Her bond was set at $7,500. *** A man was charged for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license after he slowly fell off his moped while driving down the Post Road in Fairfield. Two Fairfield youths were issued juvenile summonses and one 17-year-old Fairfield male was issued an infraction for marijuana-related charges following a motor vehicle stop by Easton Police on Mile Common Road on Tuesday, May 1 at 5:02 p.m. According to police, the car containing the three sped off when a patrol car approached it on the roadway, running a stop sign. The officer and canine unit discovered marijuana cigarettes, a plastic bag containing marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the car. Two youths were issued juvenile summons for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
