ITM CDC Tick Study - Possible Lacey Act Violations

The Connecticut Agriculture experiment Station ( CAES ) currently conducting the ITM CDC tick study in Redding, CT. will be investigated for possible felony transporting of illegally shot deer into NY State from Connecticut. Scott Williams of the CAES study transported ( 16 ) possibly illegally killed deer into NY State last February  2013. Unfortunate for Williams is the fact that in doing so possibly violated the - Lacey Act. Under the Lacey Act, it is unlawful to import, export, sell, acquire, or purchase fish, wildlife or plants that are taken, possessed, transported, or sold: 1) in violation of U.S. or Indian law, or 2) in interstate or foreign commerce involving any fish, wildlife, or plants taken possessed or sold in violation of State or foreign law. Williams then transported the deer back to Connecticut a short time later.  When asked why he had done this on January 9, 2014, Williams replied , "The carcases were transported to NY State because of a paperwork problem in Connecticut".  The DEEP investigation will also look at  White Buffalo, Inc. for possibly  illegally killing the ( 16 ) deer on town owned property in Redding, CT
