Alert – New Tick species Identified in Redding CT,  ITM-CDC Study:

Redding, CT., Over the last year a new species of Tick has been identified as a result of research conducted by local hunters in Redding. This new species inhabits both the forest floor as well as on trees throughout Redding and is believed to be spreading rapidly into surrounding towns. Not unlike Ixodes Scapularis or the Black Legged tick this new species also attaches itself to deer. However, this tick is large enough that it has been seen dragging deer through the forest. Unlike the Black Legged Tick the new species appears to have a deadly affect on deer. Further observation revealed that this tick, like the black legged tick, requires a meal from large mammals and it seems that humans are a supportive host to it’s lifecycle. The new tick feeds on the trust of unsuspecting humans and just like the Black Legged tick can alter neurological function creating fits of delusion and even amnesia. The pathogen linked to this parasite has been identified as “infospreadus propogandis” also known as misleading information and can be spread from one infected human to another by word of mouth. Leading to further spread of the disease, the pathogen has also been linked to web sites such as “Be Safe Redding” and The “Fairfield County Deer Management Alliance” For the time being until the new tick can be collected and investigated thoroughly the species has been named: “Davidus  Streitaris  Lunaticus" or the “Grant  Money  Tick.” Please be aware of this dangerous threat, as it is believed that this Tick has begun to cause extreme disruption to the Eco-balance of the forest in Redding and throughout Fairfield County. It is believed that First Selectman Julia Pemberton is showing signs of exposure to the tick and may have contracted the virus. Further research is also being conducted to determine the species origin. It is believed that there is a similar species lurking in the labs of the Ct Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven, which may prove to be the genetic source of the species. There are also indications that  Dr  Georgina Scholl may have information regarding the existence of the tick in Redding as early as 2007.  It should also be noted that like the Black Legged Tick the “Grant  Money  Tick” is the carrier of other viruses to include, "Blanco Buffalosis" or the White  Buffalo  Virus. The virus rarely shows symptoms before sunset as it is nocturnal and also is known to have a deadly effect on deer.  The CT Ag Station researchers, Dr Kirby Stafford and Scot Williams as well as the CT DEEP are aware of the virus and released a statement that it is contained to ( 2 ) one square mile areas in Redding and is limited to private properties.  This statement was also confirmed by the Redding Health Dept.  Note:   Research will continue to determine the source of this new epidemic and updates will be released as new information becomes available.
