Weston Youth Cheer to Host Cheer Extravaganza Event on Friday, May 17

Weston Trojans Youth Football & Cheerleading Plans Cheer Extravaganza

-- Uniform Fitting Night Scheduled for June 12 --

WESTON, CT, May 13, 2013 – The Weston Trojans Youth Football & Cheerleading (WTYF&C) organization will host the second annual Weston Cheer Extravaganza on Friday, May 17 at Weston High School new gym from 4:00 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.  The event is open to students in kindergarten through 8th grade and will be run by the Weston High School cheer squad and Youth Cheer coaches.  No experience is necessary.

“The Cheer Extravaganza was a huge hit last year, and is a great way for the kids to learn more about Weston’s youth cheer program,” said Kelley Coleman, head coach of Weston High School Trojan cheerleading.  “We hope to see lots of new faces, as well as the squads from last year, at this fun event which will include several dance and cheer demonstrations.”

“Our 2013 registration season is already off to a strong start,” noted Kathie Fitzgerald, Vice President of Cheer, WTYF&C Board.  “Youth cheer is a fun, athletic and wonderful community building experience for Weston’s girls.  We encourage anyone interested in learning more about the program or anxious to return to cheer after a great 2012 season, to join us for a great afternoon.”

Uniform Fitting:

Cheerleading uniform fittings will take place on Wednesday, June 12th.  Students in grades 6 through 8 will be fitted from 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. and kindergarten - 5th grade students will be fitted from 3:30 – 5:00 in the Weston High School cafeteria.  Cheerleaders must be registered to be fitted for a uniform.

2013 Registration Information:

Online registration is open until June 30th at www.trojansfootball.org for Flag Football (Grades 1-4), Tackle Football (Grades 5-8) and Cheerleading (Grades 1-8).

The WTYF&C program will include the following cheerleading squads:

-       Grade 1 & 2, Mini Flag Squad

• Mandatory practices begin after Labor Day and will be held once a week in Weston.  Games will be held on Saturday or Sunday, once a week through mid-November.  Registration cost is $175.

-       Grade 3 & 4, Jr. Lady Trojans Mascots Squad

• Mandatory practices will begin on August 19 and will meet Monday through Friday until August 31.  After Labor Day, practices will be held once a week in Weston.  Games will be held on Saturday or Sunday, once a week.  Registration cost is $350.

-       Grade 5 & 6, Junior Lady Trojans Prep Squad

• Mandatory practices will begin on August 19 and will meet Monday through Friday until August 31.  After Labor Day, practices will be held twice a week in Weston.  Games will be held on Saturday or Sunday, once a week through mid-November. Registration cost is $350.

-       Grade 7 & 8, Junior Lady Trojans Squad

• Mandatory practices will begin on August 19 and will meet Monday through Friday until August 31.  After Labor Day, practices will be held twice a week in Weston.  Games will be held on Saturday or Sunday, once a week through mid-November. Registration cost is $400.

• Social Tennis Mixer:  Fundraiser tennis event to be held on Saturday, June 1, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at The Field Club.  Space is limited.  More information and registration is available at http://trojansfootball.org

• Memorial Day Fair – Come dunk the football and cheer coaches at the Memorial Day fair at the dunk tank on Sat, 5/25, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. 

 The 2013 season will mark Weston’s second year with the Fairfield County Football League (FCFL), which also serves the youth football programs of Darien, Fairfield, New Canaan, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Westport and Wilton.  Weston joined FCFL last year, now in it’s 12th year in the county, and received an enthusiastic reception from Westonites.  Nearly 250 Weston students participated in the program last year, and included an exciting regular season 8-0 losses finish for Weston’s 8th grade football team.
