Whiz Kid: Catie Ledwick
This Trojans three-year starter helped the Weston girls lacrosse team to win their school's first state championship as a program in any sport other than tennis since 1994.

The junior three-year starter mid-fielder had four goals — including the last goal — on June 11 in the Trojans' 8-7 Class S title game victory over 7th-seeded Granby Memorial at Stratford’s Bunnell High School. Ledwick capped a post-season run where the Trojans gained more confidence and a stronger “can do” attitude against bigger and newer opponents than the Trojans were used to.
“She just wanted to win the game,” Weston first-year head coach Megan Murphy said of the midfielder's strong desire to perform at the highest level.

Other important attributes such as good stick skills, a positive attitude and maturity as a person have also played a huge role in Ledwick’s early successes.
After defeating Stonington (19-2) and North Branford (16-12) in the tournament’s first two rounds, Weston knocked off top seed Haddam-Killingsworth 12-9 in the semi-finals.
Ledwick is also proud of her All-State recognition, All-Patriot League honors, and SouthWest Conference honors.
“That was pretty cool,” she said.
With another successful Trojan season in the books, Ledwick has totaled 39 goals and 18 assists which places her in fourth place in the school's all-time scoring list, fifth on the all-time points and scoring list and second leading goal scorer in the SWC.
The junior has also made her mark in front of her coach’s as well with MVP honors – announced Monday evening at the team’s banquet.
Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness:
Ledwick says her key to awesomeness is growth in her confidence along with support from her teammates.
“Confidence and support — it’s just very big,” Ledwick said. “I believe in myself. This year was a huge improvement for us.”
Lacrosse experience is quite evident in the Ledwick household especially with two older brothers — Jeff and Sean — who played for the Trojans boys team and now play at the college level.
Ledwick said she'd like to continue playing lacrosse in college, either at the D-III or club level, but right now is focused on preparing for her senior season.
