Weston School Board To Consider Summer Arts Program

The Weston Board of Education will hear a proposal that could be implemented this summer.

Will Weston students be able to take part in arts enrichment programs this summer?

The Board of Education will hear a proposal tonight which would create the following two summer programs:

  • Band and Orchestra Camps — Grades 5 through 8
  • Youth Theater Camp — Grades 4 through 7

According to the presentation which will be given and is attached to this article as a .pdf, the program "would benefit children who already participate in the school-year program by providing opportunities for them to take part in smaller ensembles and smaller group lessons." New musicians would also be given the opportunity to catch up during the summer.

The theater camp would allow students to learn many different roles of a production. It would "allow every member of the camp to not only be involved in the acting, singing, and stage work, but the technical elements of theater including scene design, costumes, and lighting as well."

The camps would cost on a per-student basis, and may generate the ability to raise revenues for the district to offset other costs.

Other agenda items for the board's meeting include an update on the school's security as well as an update on the school's current finances.

The meeting takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the library at Weston Middle School.
