Weston Middle School Has a New Assistant Principal

After an extensive search process, Dru Walters has been appointed as the new Assistant Principal for Weston Middle School, according to a press release issued by Weston Public Schools Monday.

Walters comes to Weston from the Derby Public Schools where he has been the Dean of Student Development at Derby Middle School since January, 2012. As Dean of Student Development, he worked with students and staff to promote higher levels of student achievement, engagement, motivation, and self-discipline.

Among other duties, he observed and evaluated teachers, managed the student discipline process, and acted as the building principal in the principal’s absence.

Prior to joining the administrative team in Derby, Walters was a mathematics teacher at Roger Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield beginning in 2004. While at Ludlowe, Mr. Walters served as the 7thgrade Team Leader, was a leader in the SRBI (early intervention) program, and developed curriculum for the character education/anti-bullying program.

Walters also chaired PPT and 504 meetings, was a SMART Board trainer, and was the coach of the Math Team.

Walters earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Vermont, a Master of Arts in Education and a Sixth Year Degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

Colleen A. Palmer, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools said: "I am very pleased that Mr. Walters will be joining the Weston team. He is a dedicated middle school educator, and he brings a passion for student achievement and character development that will be highly valued in the Weston Middle School community."

Walters official start date is yet to be determined, but it is expected that he will begin his tenure as Assistant Principal prior to August 1, 2013.
