High Winds Knock Out Power, Delay School in North Haven

North Haven schools had a delayed opening — and almost 600 homes found themselves without power early Thursday morning morning — after a storm system that brought heavy winds blew through the area overnight.

Most homes and business have been brought back online after thousands lost power following a strong wind and rain storm that blew through the area early Thursday morning.

In North Haven now, only four customers report they are still without power, according to United Illuminating's outage map.

Early Thursday morning, that number had been at almost 600 homes, or more than 5 percent of the town.

Update at 11:15 a.m.

As utility crews work to restore power to thousands of homes throughout Connecticut, the majority of North Haven who found themselves without electricity early this morning have now been brought back online.

According to United Illuminating's outage map, 130 customers in town — or just over 1 percent — currently have no electricity.

Although the high wind watch for the area has been cancelled, a wind advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

North Haven Patch will continue to keep an eye on the outage map numbers until all homes in town have had their power restored.

Update at 6:50 a.m.

The number of customers in North Haven reporting they are without power this morning has suddenly spiked.

According to United Illuminating's outage map, 593 customers in North Haven are now without power, or some 5.3 percent of the town.

There will be a two-hour delay for all North Haven Public Schools today, according an alert on the district's website.

It is unclear at this time if the delay is weather-related or due to another issue. Other area schools, however, also have delays this morning, reportedly due to traveling problems related to downed trees and limbs.

According to United Illuminating's outage map, only two customers in North Haven are now without power.

The high wind watch remains in effect for North Haven until 9 a.m. this morning.
