School Briefs: July 9

Weston, Redding and Easton students earn accolades nationwide.

Matthew Weber graduated from The Juilliard School of Music in Manhattan with a master's degree in classical performing bass. He went through the Weston school system.

David Linke, of , was recently awarded a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineering with high distinction at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute commencement.

Katherine Carter has graduated from Goodwin College cum laude. Carter, of Redding, received a diploma on Saturday, June 9, during a commencement ceremony. In order to achieve cum laude status, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5.

The following local high school students were awarded the 2012 Saint Michael's College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience:

  • Brett Gurman, of Weston, a student at Weston High School
  • Miguel Holmes, of Redding, a student at Joel Barlow High School
  • Samantha Tomaszewski, of Redding, a student at Joel Barlow High School
  • Zoe Zegers, of Weston, a student at Weston High School

The award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in volunteer service and academic achievement.

Rachel Greene graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Colorado College. Greene is the daughter of Joanne Thompson and Robert Greene of Redding.
