Region 9 OKs 1.49% Bump for Barlow

The school board that oversees Joel Barlow High School is asking the voters for $323,000 more to finance the 2012-2013 school year.

The Region 9 Board of Education approved a 1.49 percent budget increase ($323,444) to $22.02 million at its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 20.

Earlier this year, Dr. Bernard Josefsberg, superintendent of schools,  for . Cuts from that original number were arrived at through the decision not to purchase some textbooks and not to hire a new teacher, as well as some other staff reductions and projected utility savings, among other things.

"I believe this budget will maintain Barlow’s position as a premier high school and is sensitive to the taxpayers in these continued uncertain economic times," said Mark Lewis, vice chairman of the school board.
