Lacking Credentials, Weston Principal Placed on Leave

Hurlbutt Elementary School Principal Joanna Genovese will be temporarily replaced by Assistant Superintendent Kenneth Craw.

 

Joanna Genovese, principal of , was placed on administrative leave following the disclosure that she lacks the required credentials to serve in that capacity. 

The announcement came following an emergency meeting the Weston Board of Education held Friday morning to discuss personnel matters.

According to a press release sent by Lewis Brey, the district's director of human resources, Weston Public Schools was notified of the situation by Genovese on Sept. 13.

"Ms. Genovese’s administrator certification expired on August 12, 2012," Brey wrote in the release. "While she applied to renew her certification prior to the expiration date, she was notified by the State Department of Education on or about August 23, 2012 that her application was missing required credentials. Ms. Genovese does not currently possess those credentials."

"On September 13, 2012, Ms. Genovese notified the district of the situation, and she was immediately placed on paid administrative leave. On September 14, 2012, the Department of Education confirmed to Colleen A. Palmer, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools, that Ms. Genovese could not continue to serve as Principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School."

Assistant Superintendent Kenneth Craw will serve as the school's interim principal, while Assistant Principal Kimberly Kus will remain in her position.

According to the release, Palmer and Craw will be holding an informational meeting in the near future to discuss the leadership at Hurlbutt Elementary School with parents and guardians. The time and location of that meeting will be announced next week.
