Joel Barlow High School loses in quarterfinals of "The Challenge"

A Joel Barlow High School team lost in the quarterfinals of a quiz show to Mountain Lakes High School, located in New Jersey.

It's not all bad news, though – the team won $2,500 for winning the regional championships and won the Connecticut Championship of "The Challenge," a televised quiz show for high school students that airs Fridays at 6:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity network, according to The Redding Pilot.

The Joel Barlow team was made up of caption Ben Lewson, Julia Wargo, Cooper D’Agostino and Stephen Tschudi, as well as alternates Nicolò Marzaro and Lia Cirelli. Mike Ecsedy was the academic adviser.

The show quizzes teams on history, arts and literature, current events, math and science in front of a live audience. It has been on for 16 seasons, according to its website.

There were 192 high schools on the show from the tri-state area, including the regions of Nassau, Suffolk, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Westchester and Lower Hudson Valley, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The Mountain Lakes High School team was the overall tri-state champion, winning $10,000. Each student who participated in the final championship game also won $500.
