Cicchetti Named Interim Principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School

He was the superintendent of Redding and Easton schools before retiring before his contract had expired.

Dr. Michael Cicchetti, former superintendent of Redding and Easton schools, has been named interim principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School.

Cicchetti will start Oct. 1, according to Lewis Brey, Weston Public School's director of human resources. The position became available when it was discovered Joanna Genovese, the school's former principal, lacked the credentials to serve in that capacity. She resigned from her position.

Cicchetti comes to Weston with "a distinguished career in public education in Connecticut," Brey said in a press release.

"I am very pleased that Dr. Cicchetti is joining us in Weston for the remainder of the school year," Dr. Colleen Palmer, superintendent of schools, said. "This has been a difficult period for the Hurlbutt Elementary School community and the community as a whole."

Cicchetti, who had signed a three-year contract to be superintendent of Redding and Easton schools, resigned from that post after one year.

"Dr. Cicchetti brings many years of distinguished experience to the role of interim principal, and he will be an exceptional addition to our leadership team," Palmer said. "Dr. Cicchetti's extensive leadership experience, his commitment to elementary education, and his love of the arts will be tremendous assets for Hurlbutt Elementary School."
