Barlow Graduation Set for Sunday, June 24

The following is a letter Tom McMorran, principal of Joel Barlow High School, sent out to the community.

To the Editor:

The 2012 Commencement and Graduation Ceremony for will take place on Sunday, June 24, at 3 p.m. at the O'Neill Center at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

In previous years we have held the commencement during the third week of June. This year our school calendar was affected . We need a venue with the seating, parking, and emergency support services such as Barlow. We tend to have 3,000 friends and family members attend the ceremony. Barlow is one of a dozen schools that use the O'Neill Center, and all of us are governed by state statutes requiring graduation to take place at or after 180 school days.

Our decision to set the event for Sunday afternoon also reflected our desire to leave the final week of June untouched to honor commitments our students have made to summer work, camp counseling or college orientation seminars.

Members of the Class of 2012 and their families will receive further information as we get closer to the big day. Information will also be available on our website.
