Amy Watkins Named Weston Middle School Principal

Amy Watkins is the new principal of .

Last week, the Weston Board of Education announced the position—which was open after —had been filled by Watkins.

, superintendent of schools, lauded the addition of Watkins to Weston Public Schools.

“We are fortunate that Weston’s reputation of educational quality attracts a deep pool of candidates each time we post for key leadership positions," Palmer said. "During this past interview process, we again had the privilege of interviewing a cadre of highly qualified individuals for the position of Weston Middle School Principal. Throughout this rigorous process, the goal was to identify an exemplary educator whose passion for middle school students and expert leadership skills combined to define a compassionate and talented principal."  

"I am pleased that these attributes were found in Amy Watkins, a successful veteran middle school administrator," Palmer continued. "I am excited to welcome Amy to our Weston team, and I am confident that under her leadership, Weston Middle School will continue to flourish for many years to come.”

Lewis Brey, the district's director of human resources, said the district "was fortunate to attract interest from numerous qualified candidates."

Watkins comes to Weston with extensive experience as a middle school administrator, Brey said. Currently serving as the principal of Somers Middle School in Somers, N.Y., Watkins served as assistant principal and then principal of Ardsley Middle School in Ardsley, N.Y., and in Wappingers Falls, N. Y. as a sixth grade house principal.

"Ms. Watkins also brings a great deal of knowledge in curriculum and instruction, and has tremendous experience maximizing educational technology tools to enhance the instructional experience for middle school students," Brey said. "In addition, Ms. Watkins has participated for the last seven years in the Tri-State Consortium of which Weston is a member district.  Ms. Watkins has participated in numerous tri-state visits including a visit to Weston and, most recently, to Southampton, N.Y. Ms. Watkins is also a member of Tri-State’s Middle Level Leadership Principal’s Group on Understanding 21st Century Skills."

Brey said Watkins’ "depth of expertise and experience provide a solid foundation of educational leadership to further the mission of the Weston Middle School as it prepares its students for the 21st century."
