A Shake Up For Weston School Administrators

Lewis Brey recently announced some administrative realignment in Weston's schools.

Weston Intermediate School Assistant Principal Jason Bluestein recently was appointed principal of Burr Elementary School in Fairfield, effective July 1, according to Weston's Human Resources Director Lewis Brey.

Bluestein had been the assistant principal since 2009.

“Jason’s leadership has been invaluable to the success of Weston Intermediate School," said Dr. Colleen Palmer, superindentent of schools. "He will be sorely missed, and I wish him great success in his new position.”

According to Brey, Bluestein’s departure leaves an opening in a critical position.

"Beginning on July 1, 2012, Hurlbutt Elementary School Assistant Principal Doreen O’Leary will be reassigned as Assistant Principal at Weston Intermediate School," Brey wrote in a press release. "Ms. O’Leary has served as Assistant Principal at Hurlbutt since 2010, and has done a wonderful job in partnership with Principal Joanna Genovese to move Hurlbutt forward and make it such a special school."

O’Leary's departure from Hurlbutt to means there's an opening for assistant principal at the elementary school, Brey said.

"The board is pleased to announce that Ms. Kimberly Kus will serve as Interim Assistant Principal for the 2012-2013 school year. Ms. Kus is currently the Curriculum Instructional Leader for Physical Education and Health as well as a Physical Education and Health teacher at Hurlbutt," Brey said in the release. "Ms. Kus has been with Weston since 1993 and, as a certified school administrator, she frequently acts as the Hurlbutt administrator when the principal and assistant principal are out of the building."

Kus will serve as assistant principal for .6 FTE (full-time equivalent) of her time and as the Curriculum Instructional Leader for Physical Education and Health during the remaining .4 FTE of her assignment, according to Brey. In the event that enrollment continues to decline at Hurlbutt, and following a careful analysis of the use of school facilities, the Board of Education will review the administrative needs at Hurlbutt for the 2013-2014 school year.

Brey said the board hopes to name a principal for Weston Middle School shortly.

"The Board of Education’s search for a new principal for Weston Middle School is in full swing," Brey said in the release. "The application deadline was last Friday, June 1, and numerous outstanding candidates have applied for the position. Interviews with the Search Committee will commence next week, and the Board of Education expects that the new principal will be appointed by the end of this month."
