Trumbull, Easton and Redding residents can lower their energy costs.

The three towns have joined forces to participate in a "unique solar program offered through the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA)," according Solarize Connecticut.

"The towns will join eight other communities in Phase 3 of Solarize Connecticut that expects to more than double the amount of solar across the communities over the 20-week program.  Also participating in the program is a coalition of Ashford, Chaplin, Hampton, and Pomfret along with the towns of Greenwich, Manchester, Newtown and West Hartford."

Solarize "leverages group discounts through a pre-selected installer to reduce the cost of solar; it relies on the community to provide outreach and education to create awareness and build interest, and it promotes a clear end date that motivates residents to act."

“I am very pleased that Trumbull has been selected to participate in the Solarize Connecticut group purchasing program, which will enable Trumbull homeowners to better deal with the sometimes daunting costs of residential solar installations,” said Timothy Herbst, Trumbull First Selectman. “We look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership with the Towns of Easton and Redding as we work together to promote the program.”

“I am delighted that Easton is a Solarize community,” added Tom Herrmann, Easton First Selectman.  “I know that there are many homeowners out there who have been thinking about installing a solar PV system, but have been hesitating to make the investment.  Now that Easton, Redding, and Trumbull have come together, these systems will be so much more affordable.  I hope that many Easton residents will take advantage of this special opportunity.”

Natalie Ketcham, First Selectman from the Town of Redding added, "I am delighted that this innovative solar energy program is now available to Redding residents. For those interested in taking advantage of solar energy, the process is now simplified and made more affordable. I hope that residents attend the town launch meeting to learn more about the program and the benefits of participation."

Solarize Easton-Redding-Trumbull will official kick off with its first solar workshop on Sept. 22.  Residents who are interested in learning more about Solarize are urged to attend.  In order to participate in the discounts offered through Solarize, residents must sign a contract by Feb. 9, 2014.
