Shays: I Applaud Paul Ryan's Budget

Fairfield County's longtime Congressman turned Senate candidate issued a press release yesterday in response to Rep. Paul Ryan's proposed budget.

Christopher Shays, Republican candidate for United States Senate, responded yesterday to Rep. Paul Ryan's budget proposal

"I applaud Congressman Paul Ryan for his efforts at crafting a budget," Shays said in a press release. "The House Majority Republicans are living up to their legal obligations to propose and pass a budget. The Senate Majority Democrats are not living up to their obligations. The Senate has not passed a budget in 1,056 days. This is unacceptable and inexcusable."

"Regretfully, the budget passed last year by House Republicans doesn't balance the budget until 2030 — 18 years from now," Shays said. "And their new budget puts it off even further, to 2040 — 28 years from now.

"I cannot even contemplate supporting a budget that takes so long to get our country’s financial house in order," Shays said. "When I am elected to the United States Senate I will propose and vote for a budget that is balanced within six years."
