Shaban, Boucher, Carter Win Reelection

Despite the reelection of President Barack Obama and U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, and the election of U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy to replace Joe Lieberman in the U.S. Senate, it's not all sour grapes for local Republicans.

Though both Weston and Redding favored the aforementioned three men, State Senator Toni Boucher (R-26th), State Rep. John Shaban (R-135th) and State Rep. Dan Carter (R-2) were all reelected Tuesday night. 

State Senator Toni Boucher said the 26th District's "vote of confidence is gratifying."

"I never forget that they are providing me with a rare opportunity to represent their interests in bringing their voice to Hartford," she said.

Boucher also thanked her Democratic challenger, Carolanne Curry.

"Challenging different beliefs is an important part of this debate on how to best serve the people of our great state," she said. "The people's position on important policies of the state must always be heard and it is a sacred trust that I take very seriously."

Though the voting results in Easton were not available late last night, News 12 reported that Shaban won with 53 percent of the vote. Shaban defeated Democratic challenger Leon Karvelis and Green Party candidate Gabriel Rossi.

"I am happy to receive a vote of confidence from my three towns and look forward to serving again," Shaban told Patch. "I am hopeful that my Democratic and Republican friends in the General Assembly will work together to finally put the private sector first, to finally get our economy going. I am privileged to be able to serve my friends and neighbors, and will do so with the same vigor I brought to my first term."  

News 12's voting totals were as follows:

• John Shaban (R) — 6,588 votes
• Leon Karvelis (D) — 5,660 votes
• Gabriel Rossi (G) — 288 votes 

Carter could not be reached for comment at press time.
