Redding Voters OK Expenditures, Deny Costa Lane

The town voted against approving Costa Lane as a town road.

Redding voters approved the allocation of $891,000 for various projects, but voted against having the town adopt Costa Lane as a road at Wednesday night's town meeting.

According to the town clerk, Redding voters at the meeting agreed to the following:

  • To appropriate $27,685.39 for police overtime incurred from Dec. 14 through Jan. 20 (majority vote)
  • To appropriate $101,904.32 for estimated police overtime in the schools from Jan. 22 through June 21 (99 "yes" votes to 39 "no" votes)
  • To appropriate $58,030 for salary and benefits for two new police officers from March 1 through June 30 (87 "yes" votes to 44 "no" votes)
  • To appropriate $135,000 for school building security upgrades to Redding Elementary School and John Read Middle School (majority vote)

According to the town clerk, the town meeting also unanimously approved the following upgrades to the elementary and middle schools:

  • $34,385 for lighting upgrades at the elementary school through the unassigned fund balance
  • $45,000 for improvements at the elementary school playground
  • $165,000 for completing the bathroom upgrading project at the elementary school
  • $45,000 for repairing the roof at John Read Middle School
  • $60,000 to renovate the woodshop at the middle school for use as a combined tech room
  • $135,000 for completing the bathroom upgrading project at the middle school
  • $84,000 for the first phase of a locker replacement project at the middle school
