Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan.

NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."

The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.

The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.

Obama four years ago carried Connecticut 60 to 38 percent over John McCain. The president also carried Connecticut this year, winning 55 to 44 percent as of reporting at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Obama’s performance in Connecticut wasn't necessarily surprising, considering that constituents here have voted for the Democratic/Republican candidate in recent presidential elections.

That is correct on the Thursday before the election Iran committed an Act of War. Two Irian SU-25 fighter jets fired repeatedly on an un manned US predator drone flying over International waters in an esculation of US Irianian tensions. Why did the Pentagon and White House not inform the US people of this foreign national security event. Why because it was 5 days before the election and would question Obama's foreign policy. No respect of the US. Reap's of the Bengazi murder of a United States Ambassador, Navy Seal and citizens. Also a Nuclear Russioan attack sub spotted off the East Coast. Has not happened since the cold war. We are in deep trouble with our national security. Agree with Steve Forbes a severe double dip recession within a year. Maket is down 1,000 points in a week. Also did you know that 3 million illegal aliens received green cards months before the election. Is not that about 2/3rds of the popular vote margin Obama won by? Coincidental? Economically, religiously and militarily America is in deep trouble. We are to blame fellow Republicans because we continue with a weak ticket and candidates who are afraid to challenge the inept policies and track records of the incumbent White house. Imagine a CNN news caster thanking God that Hurricane Sandy came. Does not matter that millions of fellow Americas are suffering and lifes were lost. Anything to keep their agenda intact. Cannot blame Bush for the Drone incident and the coming recession.

If I were a political cartoonist, I would draw the words "Obama democrats" where the "O" was a spider hole and all the lower caste letters following in one fluid motion...as they will surely hide out al Benghazi

Someones Dad-the point is that voter fraud exists. The Left denies this fact so they can lie about voter suppression. What the cluck!

A fair living wage? I think our country has a pretty good standard of living even in the lower income groups. According to the WSJ recently, "Fully 75.5% of low-income Americans now have a cell phone, and over a quarter of those have access to the Internet through their phones." So housing, healthcare and food are out of reach but people are dropping $100 a month on a smart phone? I know, we'll solve all of our fiscal and debt woes by taxing the millionaires and billionaires. The sum of all money made by people earning over $1m is $700 bn, so we could tax them at 100% and still not close the annual deficit...

Go Roy! It's worse, actually, because there are 2 New Canaan parallels. First, it was Chris Matthews of MSNBC who made the hurricane Sandy comment. MSNBC is under the executive leadership of Jeffrey R. Immelt, CEO of General Electric, who lives in New Canaan. The second parallel is the hiding of important financial information by the former First Selectman Jeb Walker and current chair of Town Council, Mark DeWaele, both Republicans. Of course, the Obama administration is still "investigating" what happened in Benghazi, Libya. This investigation was put off before the election. Both parties are incredibly cynical and duplicitous. We need people like you to speak out even as you dodge tomatoes from the pet project crowd. It is a mistake to sit back and wait for the liberal Democrats to screw up. They may not and even if they do, you may not recognize the Republic in four years. New Canaan-style apathy and crony capitalism is so 20th century. We need Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats to assert themselves.

An attack on a drone in international waters is an act of war. This does not mean we have to go to war but we should have a vigorous response. Merely complaining to the Iranians through the Swiss does not cut it. Have you ever lived in the Middle East, know Islam, read a book on their proselytizing and goals?

Come on Eveleen, An act of war? Look at the last two Republican led states, Arizona and Florida. Great idea of repubilcans trying to surpress the democratic right to vote, so Romney would have an advantage. Pathetic!

As defined by the UN "(d) An attack by the armed forces of a State on the land, sea or air forces, or marine and air fleets of another State;"
Alethiologist November 09, 2012 at 03:18 AM
Copied from the liberal NY Times "Even so, the failure to disclose a hostile encounter with Iran’s military at a time of increased international tensions over the disputed Iranian nuclear program — and five days before the American presidential election — raises questions for the Obama administration. Had the Iranian attack been disclosed before Election Day, it is likely to have been viewed in a political context — interpreted either as sign of the administration’s weakness or, conversely, as an opportunity for President Obama to demonstrate leadership." Fairy tale: " the most transparent admin in history...!? BS

Wow I am so happy that President Obama won this election. Thankfully the majority of Americans were not blinded by the daily non-factual hateful rants by GOP operatives like Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, Hannity, FAUX news, Trump, Rove, Palin Bachman etc. GOP needs to wake up and realize that this is the 21st century and realize that we need to embrace diversity. Hateful rhetoric has no place in our society. President Obama has accomplished a lot on our behalf. He will continue to work very hard for this country. President Obama is a good decent honorable man who loves this country! If you can't see that than I feel sorry for you. He will succeed! This is the United States of America - we work together and we support the President. Congratulations President Obama!

Keep in mind 49.5% of the voters voted against Obama and his big government, big debt agenda. Their views must be included in any decisions. It is not a monarchy.
Liz November 12, 2012 at 02:50 PM
Evelyn, hopefully they elected a senate and house who will represent them within the government. If bills and policy are enacted its because of our representative government voting on and passing it. If that 49% feels they are not listened to... they need to work harder to make sure their voice is heard. We, as Americans, can make sure our government works for us. But the most important thing to remember for that 49% is that their needs and views are not the exclusive needs and views of the country and as Americans we should look out for each other.

Why is it that so many on the right seem to forget that it was Obama that made our federal accounting transparent. As one of his first orders of business in his first term he ended the accounting gimmicks of the previous administration and made sure the two unfunded wars were on the books. This has been a significant part of the massive gains in the deficit. It was just hidden before.
