Woman Sneezes, Crashes Car in Redding

Redding Police news, Sept. 3 through Sept. 9.

A 43-year-old Newtown woman was heading east on Newtown Turnpike in when she lost control of her car, traveled off the road and hit a tree on Tuesday, Sept. 4. 

The woman told police she sneezed right before the accident.

She was issued a verbal warning for making an unsafe turn.

Suspended registration

On Thursday, Sept. 6 at 8:22 p.m., a had a hit on a car driving on Black Rock Turnpike. It was determined that Errol Williams, 51, of Bridgeport was driving with his registration suspended and without insurance.

Car v. bicycle

On Thursday, Sept. 6 at 11:44 a.m., a driver heading south on Route 57 was taking a left turn onto Main Street when he struck a man riding a bicycle. 

Richard Paris, 70, of Danbury was issued a warning for turning into the path of an oncoming bike, while Eric Shaughnessy, 37, of Westport was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Car v. police cruiser

On Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1:12 p.m., a car turning out of Brookside Road on to Portland Avenue struck a police cruiser. Alexander Isley, 51, was charged with failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
