Weston Woman Crashes in Wilton, Gets DUI

A woman crashed into a pole on Hurlbutt Street while she was intoxicated, police said.

A woman drove an SUV into a utility pole on Hurlbutt Street in Wilton, which ultimately led to a DUI arrest.

Police said that Joyce Clear, 48, of Ravenwood Drive, had been driving north on Hurlbutt just after midnight on Wednesday, May 23, “when she struck a utility pole with enough force to split the pole and shear off the right corner of her car,” according to the police report.

Police administered Clear sobriety tests, which she failed, the report states. Clear was apparently uninjured in the crash—having not requested medical attention at the scene—according to the report. Police charged Clear with travelling too fast, failure to stay in the proper lane, and DUI, according to police. Hurlbutt had to be closed while CL&P made repairs to the cracked pole.
