Weston Man Charged With DUI in Westport
Peter Damato turned himself in to police on Monday.
Peter Damato, 20, of Weston, was charged Monday night with operating under the influence, reckless driving and failure to drive in proper lane.
Damato turned himself in at on a warrant for charges stemming from an accident that occurred in July 2011. At that time, officers responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Compo Road South and found a red Honda CRV lying on its side and the operator, Damato sitting on the side of the road, police said.
He told officers he was traveling north when a deer jumped out in front of his vehicle so he swerved to avoid hitting the deer, according to the police report. While the officers were speaking to him, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was smelled strongly on his breath and he told the officers he had “two beers,” police said.
