Stranger Tries to Get Kid in Van — Parents, Talk to Your Kids

After a report of a man trying to lure a child into his van with an offer of candy, Norwalk police are asking parents to talk to their children about the proper way to respond to adults who are strangers.
This Norwalk police news release was issued Saturday:
The Norwalk Police Department Special Victims Unit is investigating the report of a suspicious occurrence that occurred earlier this week.
Late Thursday afternoon, 03/13/2014, a ten-year-old Cranbury Elementary School student and the student’s father reported that on Tuesday afternoon, March 11, a man verbally offered the student candy to get into his van after getting off the school bus in front of the Meadow Gardens Housing Complex at 49 Meadow St.
The student refused his offer, ran away and notified the father when he arrived home.
The student reported that the man did not get out of his van and that there was no physical contact between the two.
The student described the suspect as a white male approximately 30-40 years old wearing glasses and a green hooded sweatshirt with a scar on his right cheek. The van is described as a dark blue van with tinted windows and the male as the sole occupant.
The student also reportedly saw the same man drive past the school bus stop the following afternoon, Wednesday, March 12, this time driving a white van.
The student reported that the white van did not stop and that nothing was said.
Parents are asked to speak with their children regarding stranger danger and to be observant of their young children as they wait for and disembark the school bus.
The Norwalk Public Schools sent out a notification letter to parents yesterday afternoon. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Norwalk Police Department.
