Prisoner Taken from California to Answer for a Sexual Assault in Redding

Redding police officers drove to a federal holding facility in Brooklyn, NY, Tuesday to pick up a 19-year-old man accused of committing a sexual assault on a minor in Redding in July of 2010.

Because he was only 16 at the time, Redding Police Chief Douglas Fuchs couldn't release the suspect's name. No information on the victim could be released either, including age and gender.

Fuchs said the suspect was living in Indiana at the time of the complaint filed in Redding, then joined the military as police were conducting their investigation.

Redding police obtained a warrant and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department arrested the suspect in California five weeks ago, then turned him over to U.S. Marshals, who transported the prisoner to Brooklyn.

According to Fuchs, Redding's warrant charges the suspect with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury/illegal contact with a minor and risk of injury. Bond was set at $100,000.
