Political Signs Should Not be Red, White & Blue!
Man destroys candidates' signs in Weston because he opposes the colors and frames.
Police arrested a man for allegedly picking up political signs, tearing them apart and tossing the signs to the ground at the intersection of Weston Road, Georgetown Road and Newtown Turnpike on Oct. 19. Another sign was ripped from a post in front of the Weston Historical Society building when entering the Kettle Creek Historic District, according to police.
A 45-year-old Westport man walking along Old Mill Road at around 7:47 a.m. was questioned by officers and admitted to causing the damage, police said.
Police said he didn't destroy the signs in opposition of any political parties or candidates, rather, the man told the officers he didn't like that the signs were red, white and blue, "colors that should only be on the American Flag."
The signs were also attached to wire frames in the shape of an "H", another complaint by the alleged vandal.
He was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, then taken into protective custody for a medical examination, police said.
