REDDING — A Fox Run Road family awoke at 4:45 this morning to the sounds of an attempted break-in to their home. Officers responding to their 911 call were able to apprehend a suspect, who did not gain access into the house, according to police.
Alan Bucknam, 27, of Stamford was charged with second-degree attempted burglary, criminal trespass, possession of burglar's tools, weapon in a motor vehicle, DWI and operating a vehicle without a license.
A female passenger inside of Bucknam's vehicle was not charged.
Inside Bucknam's vehicle, police said officers found a knife and an expandable bar which could be used to open or widen door jams. It is unknown whether either were in his possession at the time of the incident, according to the report.
Police are also investigating the possibility that Bucknam was involved in other incidents as loose jewelry was found inside the vehicle, Chief Douglas Fuchs said.
Officers determined that Bucknam did not have a driver's license and was operating under the influence with a blood alcohol level that was approximately twice the legal limit, police said.
