Police Find Lost Hikers on Aspetuck Trail Saturday Night

Easton police officers and a Trumbull canine unit searched for two teenagers who got lost hiking after dark.

Easton police say they occasionally receive a call from someone who got lost hiking Aspetuck Trail when darkness fell earlier than they expected. One of those instances occurred on Saturday, when a 19-year-old Weston woman used her cell phone to tell the dispatcher she and her friend, an 18-year-old man from Nashua, New Hampshire, lost the way back to their car, which was parked on Elm Drive.

Police said the duo did the right thing by waiting in one place — by trail marker number 43, adding the latitude and longitude of their location was taken off the cell phone during the 911 call.

Easton officers went out with firefighters, who brought lighting equipment, and EMS personnel waited on standby in case anyone got hurt, according to the report. The Trumbull Police Department was called to bring in its tracking dog.
