Both victims were still alive as of the press briefing at 2 p.m.

The couple had children, police said, though they weren't sure how many. Those children were in school at the time of the shooting, and school officials had made the appropriate steps to get in touch with the children's emergency contacts.

According to police, after she was shot, the female was able to make it to her neighbor's residence where she called 911.

"She was able to speak to us," Captain John Lynch said.

After responding to Grumman Avenue, police found the woman at the neighbor's residence and located the male in the adjacent home.

When asked whether the man was the one who pulled the trigger, police said it was too early in the investigation to determine that.

"We’re in the middle of our investigation, so we’re not making any assumptions at this point," Lynch said.

Police also couldn't disclose where the man and woman were shot.

Lynch said he wasn't aware of a history of domestic calls coming from the residence where the couple live.

"That's one thing we are checking," he said. "That's part of our specific investigation."

Chief Michael Lombardo said they're not looking for suspects.

"We're not looking for anyone at this point,"  he said.

Police said they believe a rifle was used in the shooting.

"The Wilton Police Department is actively investigating this incident and has contacted the State Police Major Crime Scene Investigation Unit to assist with the evidence collection," Lynch said.

More information will be provided when it can be released, and police asked the public to think of the family members and respect their privacy.
