Long Wait at a Stop Sign Leads to a DUI on Route 53

A police officer decided to follow a vehicle after the driver waited a long time at a stop sign at the intersection of routes 53 and 107 at close to midnight Monday. Then erratic driving on 53 led to a stop and subsequent arrest for DUI and narcotics, according to police.

Brent Arrowitz, 26, of Bethel was charged with DUI, operating under suspension, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said field sobriety tests determined Arrowitz was under the influence and breath tests at headquarters showed a blood alcohol level that was two-and-a-half times the legal limit.

During the traffic stop a small amount of marijuana and a smoking pipe were found in the vehicle, according to the report.
