Easton Dog Dies from Hypothermia After Ice Rescue

Editor's Note: This story originally said the dog survived, before being corrected.

Felecia Tremont of Tatetuck Trail called 911 at 2:36 Saturday afternoon after her dog, Cole, fell through the ice, 20-feet out into a body of water near her home. Despite a quick rescue by firefighters, police and an animal control officer, her pet died of hypothermia later that night.

"The Easton Fire and Rescue did an unbelievable job getting there quickly and going into the frozen pond to rescue our dog," said Jason Tremont. "We cannot thank them enough. All those involved deserve an acknowledgement for their great work ... unfortunately our dog passed away later that night, because of organ failure from [hypothermia] at the emergency veterinarian hospital."
