Dump Truck Shuts Down Metro North in Redding

Violation of probation

On Feb. 22 at 10:30 p.m., a New York City woman turned herself in to , who held a warrant for her arrest. Colleen Pinter, 59, was charged with violating her probation and was held on $5,000 bond and given a March 5 court date. Her original charge was DUI-related.

A dump truck rolled off of Simpaug Turnpike and onto the railroad tracks on Feb. 20 at 3:26 p.m., causing the Metro North line to shut down momentarily. The road was also closed. The vehicle was eventually removed, and the case is under investigation by MTA Police. No injuries were reported.

Officers from the Redding Police Department helped Wilton Police track down two individuals they were looking for in the area of the Gilbert & Bennett School in Georgetown. They were eventually apprehended in Caraluzzi’s parking lot at about 8:44 p.m. on Feb. 22.

Guns confiscated

On Feb. 20 at 11:07 a.m., Redding Police responded to a call of a distraught individual in possession of firearms at a private resident on Umpawaug Road. The individual was taken to the hospital without incident, and police seized two handguns, a shotgun and ammunition.

Warrant arrest

On Feb. 21 at 2:16 p.m., Stratford Police notified Redding Police that they had somebody in custody for which Redding Police had a warrant. Stratford Police served the warrant, and Raymond Cardona, 21, of Bridgeport was arrested. The original charges stemmed from disorderly conduct which took place following an altercation on North Park Avenue in February 2010.

Car accidents

On Feb. 19, at 1:01 a.m., Exa Steinbreder, 20, of Redding was heading south on Black Rock Turnpike when she lost control of her vehicle, crossed the double yellow line and went off the road, striking an electrical box. No injuries were reported, and police said the accident appeared to be weather-related.

On Feb. 24 at 5:30 a.m., Louis Rice, 56, of Bethel was heading west on Pocahontas Road when he lost control of his vehicle on a snowy road, went off the shoulder and down the embankment, striking a tree. He was issued a warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

On Feb. 24 at 6:48 a.m., a vehicle driven by Mark Venditti, 56, of Wilton skidded off the side of the road while traveling north on Route 7, striking a road sign and a private business sign. Venditti was given a warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
