Drunk Woman Arrested for Crashing into Parked Cop Car, Police Say

After a car struck a Ridgefield Police cruiser on Route 7 and drove away, Redding officers helped nab an alleged drunk driver in Branchville on Friday, Jan. 25 at 1:03 a.m.

According to Redding Police, the Ridgefield officer was making a traffic stop when his vehicle was struck. The officer was not injured.

Redding Police later caught up with the driver, who was charged by Ridgefield Police with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Heather Mercik, 30, of Bridgeport was also charged with evading responsibility and failure to move over for a stationary emergency vehicle.

She was held on $1,000 bond.

Officers responded to a one-car rollover accident that took out a “significant amount of guardrail” on Cross Highway on Jan. 28 at 9:08 p.m., police said.

The operator, Gardner Herbert, 59, of Meeker Hill Road, was issued an infraction for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and a warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
