Court Records: Sanford Under Investigation For Misuse of Town Funds

Redding's former Highway Superintendent, who was arrested last Friday, may face more charges.

Documents unsealed at Danbury Superior Court on Monday show that former Redding Highway Superintendent Bruce Sanford is under investigation to determine whether he used town funds to restore two machines he owns, the Danbury News Times reports.

Sanford, 59, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 9 and charged with three counts larceny in the second degree of a victim over 60 and attempted larceny in the second degree of a victim over 60.

According to the News Times, the crimes Sanford is currently charged with do not involve the misuse of town funds. But the former department head remains under investigation for allegedly using "taxpayer money to purchase parts for his personal vehicles" — a 1977 Mack truck and a Club Cadet lawn tractor — and also directing "highway department employees to work on the truck while they were on duty," the newspaper reports.
