Christian Toomey, 28, of Bethel was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to drive right following a motor vehicle accident on Redding Road on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 8:30 p.m.
According to police, Toomey was heading north on Redding Road, near Umpawaug Road, when he crossed the double yellow line and struck an oncoming vehicle in a head-on manner. That vehicle sustained major damage, and its operator was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Toomey was not injured, police said. When police responded, they determined Toomey to be under the influence of alcohol. He failed field sobriety and was taken into custody. It was later determined Toomey’s BAC was twice the legal limit.
He was held on $100 bond and given an Oct. 4 court date.
