Weston RTC Clambake Unites Candidates and Voters to Win in November

A record number of Republicans and their candidates gathered for the 5th annual Clambake Under the Weston Stars on June 7 to fundraise for the upcoming November elections.  Guests from Weston and surrounding towns mingled with candidates at the lovely home of Eileen and Mark Crowley as they enjoyed a lively cocktail hour and traditional New England lobster dinner.  Lt. Governor Candidate Heather Somers brought fresh oysters to add to the feast which served to illustrate her message that our state’s thriving oyster industry could fail under Connecticut’s current anti-business environment.  The large number of attendees and candidates makes clear how critical the November elections are for both our state and national government.  Congressional Candidate Dan Debicella was among the candidates whose presence demonstrates the importance they place on our small town.  “We need Washington to be more like Weston—enough of the partisanship and special interest groups, and more concern for improving the lives of our families.  It is time to be Americans first, and Republicans and Democrats second,” Debicella said.

Former GOP Congressional nominee, Steve Obsitnik, served as Master of Ceremonies, adding his wit and charm to the program.  He gave all the candidates time to present themselves including Gubernatorial Candidate John McKinney and his running mate David Walker, Secretary of State Candidate Peter Lumaj, Comptroller Candidate Sharon McLaughlin, State Senate Candidate Tony Hwang, State Rep Candidate John Shaban and Probate Court Judge Candidate Lisa Wexler.  State Senator Toni Boucher voiced the concerns all candidates share as she warned that Connecticut needs to get its fiscal house in order to avoid becoming “Detroit on the Sound.”

In addition to all of our candidates, State Rep Gail Lavielle, Former State Rep John Stripp and Young Republicans joined to support the event.  There were also a lot of new faces in the crowd this year including Westonites Therese and John Zuch who summed up the evening, “It was not your typical boring political event.  We had a great time with neighbors, friends and candidates.”
