Real World Fiscal Policy for Redding

Responsible financial policies keep the town strong. In Redding, a commitment to holding taxes down and providing lean and efficient government isn’t the exclusive domain of one party or another. Let’s stop assigning philosophies based on party affiliation, and start looking at the record, and the candidate.

My record of fiscally responsible leadership is clear. As Region 9 Board of Ed Chairman, and as your Selectman, I’ve worked to control spending and improve transparency, while preserving vital town services for our citizens. I will use my experience to continue to look for ways to make the most of your taxpayer dollars.

This includes taking the long view of what the town’s assets and needs will be—not only today, but next year, and the year after. It’s easy to play the hero and keep taxes flat, especially if you’re spending the rainy day fund while wearing “rose colored glasses” as the Republican-led Board of Finance did a few years ago.

There are roads and bridges to fix, buildings to maintain, schools to run, and other services to provide that protect our wonderful town and keep it a great place to live.

It takes diplomacy, initiative and a willful intention to get things done. It takes the skillset of a startup operator, new ideas, and the energy to pursue them. It takes rolling up your sleeves, innovative thinking, and teamwork. I learned how to stretch every dollar from my work in startups and non-profits.

As your First Selectman, this is the real world approach that I will bring to town hall: seeking new ways to keep taxes low and preserving the things that make Redding a wonderful place to live.
