To the Editor:
In this political age, the voters of Easton, Redding and Weston have an extraordinary opportunity. The opportunity to elect an individual who has a unique and well-needed background and skill set to bring to Hartford as our representative for state legislature. Leon Karvelis is the clear choice to represent us in Hartford.
Having served with Leon on the Region 9 Board of Education for over 7 years, I can verify that Leon works tirelessly for the people of our district. His financial experience in the public sector and his fair, objective input on every issue of substance representing the people of the Towns of Easton and Redding are just the skill set that is needed in Hartford. As a result of Leon's recommendations, Region 9 refunded a significant portion of outstanding debt saving taxpayers of Easton and Redding almost $1.5M. In this era of fiscal challenge such savings are rare, but very welcome.
Leon Karvelis is a true political leader. He has worked effectively reaching across the aisle to do what is right for his constituent base, leading true bi-partisan efforts that have made a significant difference to both students and tax payers. I know he will be able to successfully bring his unique consensus building expertise to Hartford as our state representative.
I am proud to be a Republican, but one who places a priority on objectivity, fairness, competence and service to the public in my voting priorities. I have therefore decided to endorse the candidacy of Leon Karvelis for the position of State Representative for the 135th Assembly District. I hope you all join me in reaching across the aisle supporting Leon Karvelis as our next State Representative from the Easton, Redding, and Weston 135th district.”
Catherine Gombos, Chair, Region 9 Board of Education
