Easton Loses a World War II Veteran

James "Jerry" O'Connell, May 18, 1925 - October 29, 2013

James G. O’Connell, age 88, beloved husband of Mildred Mital O’Connell of Easton, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on May 18, 1925, he was a son of the late John and Kathleen Fitzgerald O’Connell and was a longtime resident of Easton.

He was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. Before his retirement in 1988, Mr. O’Connell was a steamfitter and member of Local 777 for many years. Jerry loved to go fishing with his son, travel, and go on cruises with his family. His grandson, Patrick was the apple of his eye and he never failed to make him laugh.

He enjoyed working outdoors, watching football on TV and never missed a NY Giants game. He was an avid reader and loved to do crossword puzzles. He was an amazing dad and loved his family dearly. He was always good for a joke and was the life of the party.

In addition to his wife Mildred of 58 years, survivors include his loving daughter, Ellen Salerno and her husband Marc of Shelton, a cherished grandson, Patrick Salerno as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Timothy G. O’Connell and brothers, John and Robert O’Connell.

Funeral Information

Friends are invited to meet directly at Notre Dame Church, 655 Morehouse Rd., Easton on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Aspetuck Cemetery, Easton. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
