Weston Kiwanis Reservoir Run Half Marathon and 5K

On Sunday, October 27th, the Kiwanis Club of  Weston will sponsor its second annual
Reservoir Run Half Marathon, a gorgeous 13.1 mile autumnal race through Weston
CT and along the beautiful Saugatauk River Reservoir.  The Half Marathon, open to anyone 14 years or
older, is challenging and competitive, and already runners are coming from as
far away as Colorado and Arizona!

Last year there were over 400 runners signed up and net
proceeds exceeded $27,000, given equally to Project Eliminate, Purple Hearts
Homes, and the Kiwanis Foundation.  The
money to Project Eliminate, a joint project with UNICEF,  provided about 5,000 inoculations for
pregnant mothers against the deadly tetanus virus. This year's beneficiaries
will be the same three charities. Again, Gatorade will sponsor the event, with
significant help from Fairfield County Bank and others.

For those who may want to run a less difficult course than
the Half Marathon, this year there will be a 5K race.  In addition, the 5K race is a wonderful
opportunity for parents to run with their children.  Proceeds will help the Weston Booster's Club
support Weston athletic programs.

For those age 9 and under and for ages 10 to 12, there is a
free “Kids Run,” two laps around the track;
ribbons are awarded to all runners.

The races begin at the Weston High School on School Road,
Weston CT.  Runners are encouraged to
arrive at 8:15 am for the Half Marathon Start at 8:30 am and the 5K Start at
8:40 am.  Both races are certified and
chip timed.  Each finishing racer
receives a beautiful custom medallion and custom designed long sleeve shirt. In
addition, there is the chance for Half Marathon runners to win a pair of Jet
Blue tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S.  The finishing ceremony will offer home baked
cookies and other restorative treats as well as live music.
