Support/Networking for Parents of Adults & Older Teens with Autism Spectrum Diagnosis

For November's meeting we will have Frank Caparulo as our guest speaker.  Frank has an MS in Special Education and Health Education, and has been practicing as a sex educator and sex therapist for more than 30 years.  He has co-authored several books on sex education for adolescents and early adolescents and specialized in sexual education for the special needs population since the 1970's.  Frank was a classroom teacher for 20 years in both Norwalk and New Haven and was an adjunct faculty member at the Yale Medical School for 9 years.  Over the years Frank has seen at least a dozen young men on the spectrum.  Frank will share with us some of his experiences and methods employed, as well as answer any questions you may have.  There will be index cards available at the beginning of the meeting to write down any questions you may have, or feel free to bring your questions written on an index card and place them in the bin at the front of the room prior to the start of the meeting.

Please use the parking lot behind the church and enter through the side door at the top of the steps into the church hall.

The mission of this support group is to provide information and support to parents who have raised a child on the autism spectrum and are anticipating or working toward assisting him or her with the transitions to high school, college, adulthood and the appropriate level of maximum personal independence.  Parents of younger children on the spectrum are welcome to attend.     We are striving to create a community of caring parents that will locate or create the support these young adults need as they navigate adulthood.  Plans for developing programs suitable for meeting the social and emotional needs of this age group will be discussed.  If you have any questions or are interested in attending please contact the group facilitator Michelle Wendt at ParentsofAdultswithASD@gmail.com
