Out of Line: Janet Lage + Nancy Lasar

Amy Simon Fine Art is pleased to announce the
March 8th opening ofOut of
Line:  Janet Lage + Nancy Lasar
, an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by
these two accomplished artists whose use of drawing and line is critical to their
art.

Janet Lage, combines disciplined formal
painting with the raw spontaneity of chance, outcome and intuition.  She approaches each piece understanding the
physical image, but allowing internal forces of perception and chance to evolve.  Her paintings are an adventure of experiment
and intent woven together.   Viewers travel through alluring linear paths
that create an exciting visual journey. Lage’s objective is to explore and emphasize
the possibility of paint medium with gritty, tactile quality.  She leaves traces of the process and text in
each piece of art.  This energizes the
painted form.  Her works are poetry on
canvas. In the artist’s words, “my goal is to momentarily harness logic,
instinct and guesswork.”

Like Lage, Nancy Lasar utilizes a variety of
lines and marks in her work.  Whether
drawing, painting or printmaking, the process is about layering and energizing
the space so that objects are fluid, interconnected and full of energy and
movement. She employs a variety of lines, marks and
media suggesting both stasis and openness to possibility and transformation, as
well as time passing. The works reflect the multiple realities which
intermingle memory, imagination and daily life.
Images emerge and diverge, reconfiguring new relationships. Each of these artists work and live in Connecticut.  However, both have significant reputations
nationally and internationally.  They
have each exhibited in a wide range of museums and galleries. Their works are
included in important corporate and museum collections.Out of
Line:  Janet Lage + Nancy Lasar
