MUSIC ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM

INTERFAITH COUNCIL PROGRAM “MUSIC ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM” TO HONOR DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR

The Interfaith Council of Westport and Weston will present its Ninth Annual Martin Luther King Day program on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 3:00 PM.  The event will take place at the Norfield Congregational Church, 64 Norfield Road, Weston CT 06883.

Music on the Road to Freedom celebrates the African-American Spiritual and its place in the history of the United States. The story of slavery and emancipation, of bringing hope into a desperate situation, intertwines the religious and musical life of our land.

Rev. Dr. Bernard R. Wilson, Senior Minister of Norfield Congregational Church, tells the story with an eye to personal experience as well as the broader flow of events. He will be joined by Combined Choirs and soloists, who will sing the spirituals to bring the talking points to musical life.

The presentation is free and open to all.  The Interfaith Council will host a reception following the program.

There will be a good will collection to benefit the Warm Up Funds in Westport and Weston and the ABC, A Better Chance, program.

Don’t miss this special celebration of deeply meaningful music and a story that needs to be told.
