Fred Newman: Ah-ooo-gah! (Sounding Off and Telling Tales)

Fred Newman, who creates sounds and voices for Garrison Keillor's weekly radio show Prairie Home Companion, will be "sounding off and telling tales" at the library as part of the Hermes Art Series. His show, which he is calling "Ah-oo-gah!", will include stories, music and lots of audience interaction. After graduating from Harvard Business School, Mr. Newman wrote MouthSounds, an award-winning multiple-media book, was a writer and puppeteer for Jim Henson, hosted several series for Nickelodeon and Disney and has created voices and characters for stage and television including Saturday Night Live and Men in Black. Fred is currently part of Yellowstone National Park's newly opened Old Faithful Visitors' Center where he created the sound of Old Faithful itself, from five miles below the surface to geyser eruption - all with his mouth. The event is suitable for students in middle school and up. Refreshments will be served and admission is free, though reservations are requested. To sign up, go on-line to www.marktwainlibrary.org, stop in the library or call 203.938.2545.
