In a small community like Weston it is refreshing to find an Opera Series, presented in an historical context, which explores many aspects of opera in an interesting musical setting.   When the Opera series at Cobb’s Mill premiered last October, the intent of owners Elayne Cassara and Drew Friedman was to offer an entertaining, educational and delicious experience.  A fine meal, combined with opera arias, anecdotes and juicy tidbits of music history, creating a stimulating program you won’t want to miss.

“Diva” Laura Papallo will present the series,
singing selections which will highlight great moments of Opera History.  Laura has performed and lectured in Europe and the US and seeks to bring her own humorous touch to a subject she is passionate about.  Laura delivered this series of talks in Italy during the past twenty years as a Coordinator for the Trinity College Elderhostel Programs.

On December 9th, “Classic
Movie Favorites” will plunge you into a world of nostalgia as you listen to the “classiest” classics of the silver-screen.
You will witness the shift from Traditional Opera to the new wave of Musical Theater which occurred in the 1900’s, centering on Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” and his timeless “Rhapsody in Blue.” Our program will also unveil the mystery of Marni Nixon, the first singer to “cross-over” from Opera to Broadway. Marni was a “ghost” singer for your favorite Hollywood stars, including Marilyn Monroe!
