Kenny Vance & The Planotones to Play

Up Close & Personal

The Ridgefield Playhouse

80 East Ridge Road

Ridgefield, CT 06877

8:00 PM

Kenny Vance, the man who has redefined early Rhythm and Blues music of the 50s and 60s and who has been called  "The greatest singer of early rock and roll songs” by none other than Ronnie Spector, will be appearing at The Rigefield Playhouse on Saturday October 20.

In this Up Close and Personal evening of songs, stories and a Q & A, Kenny will take you to the earlier days of rock and roll and rhythm and blues, when you danced slow and close, the music was authentic and you were young and in love.

Kenny Vance: sophisticated, elegant and fun, and the Planotones, whose stage presence will have you up and dancing to the music we grew up on puts a gorgeously elegant spin on some of our favorite songs.  And if your kids and grandkids think you’re living in the past, just ask them about Bruno Mars singing an a capella version of Please Say You Want Me in all of his live shows.  And then tell them about Kenny’s version.

Vance has been making his mark in the music industry from the time he was a teenager. From founding Jay and the Americans (and ask him about opening for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in the 60s), to discovering and managing Steely Dan in the 70s, to being the Music Director of Saturday Night Live and Music Supervisor of movies such as Animal House, Eddie and The Cruisers, and the original Hairspray in the 80s, among many, many others, Kenny has been involved in music for fifty years.  Now you can see Kenny singing on the most recent PBS Special: Rock, Pop and Doo Wop.

Twenty years ago, Kenny realized how much he missed singing, and so he reformed the Planotones, the group he founded in the movie, American Hot Wax, the Allan Freed story.

An evening with Kenny Vance and the Planotones will have you singing, dancing, “Looking for an Echo” (Kenny’s signature song), and falling in love all over again.

Kenny is available for interviews.
