Elephants, Donkeys & Write-Ins In Easton

First Selectman Tom Herrmann's announcement that he will not seek reelection due to business commitments in Ohio shook up the race for Easton's highest office. Republican Town Committee Chairman Adam Dunsby is the GOP's choice to replace the fellow Republican, but he faces a challenge from write-in candidate Val Buckley.

Meanwhile, Derek Buckley, the incumbent town clerk (and Val Buckley's husband), did not receive the RTC's endorsement to run again, so he is also a write in. He faces Diana Christine Halloran (R) and Paul N. Coppinger (D).

The Buckleys originally attempted to run as Easton Coalition candidates with Randy Shapiro for treasurer and Shaun Malay for the Board of Education before the Secretary of the State The Easton Coalition notified the coalition that it failed to file an endorsement certificate and could not be on the ballot.

After losing a court challenge, the candidates' only option to stay in the race was to run as write ins.

This year's municipal race also includes other write ins, selectmen candidates John Bromer and Robert Webbe.

Incumbent selectmen, Scott Centrella (R) and Robert Lessler (D) are both seeking another term on the board.

Polls are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Samuel Staples Elementary School.
