Wintery Mix in Store for Weston, Redding, Easton

Public schools in Weston, Redding, Easton to close early today.

If you’re thinking we’re , you’re sadly mistaken: A winter weather advisory has been issued for Wednesday through Thursday morning for Fairfield and New Haven counties.

Schools in and will be dismissing students early today in anticipation of the afternoon snowfall. According to the Easton/Redding/Region 9 school district website, will release students at 11:00 a.m.; and will release students at 11:40 a.m.; will release students at 12:25 p.m.; and will release students at 12:30 p.m.

Weston schools will also be letting out early: According to the school district's website, and will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.; and will be dismissed at 12:35 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service the region will get anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow, mixed with rain, with inland towns getting higher accumulations. In addition it will be colder, with temperatures dropping into the high 20s/low 30s on Wednesday night. What’s more there will be wind gusts of up to 15 miles an hour Wednesday into Thursday.

"Snow should develop from west to east from late this morning into this afternoon," the National Weather Service said in an early morning update today. "The snow will mix with sleet and there may also be some pockets of freezing rain this afternoon and evening. The wintry mix is expected to change to all rain Thursday morning."

It will be more rain than snow, the weather service predicts. The snow “could” impact the Wednesday evening commute, it said, but by Thursday morning it will be all rain.

Call it Mother Nature’s rude reminder that the first day of spring isn’t until March 20.

Here is the National Weather Service’s forecast for Redding, as of 10 a.m. Wednesday:

Today: Snow before 2pm, then rain and snow, possibly mixed with sleet between 2pm and 3pm, then rain and snow after 3pm. High near 37. East wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tonight: Rain and sleet, becoming all rain after midnight. Low around 32. East wind between 8 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday: Rain likely before 8am, then a chance of rain and snow between 8am and 9am, then a chance of rain after 9am. Cloudy, with a high near 40. North wind between 6 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday Night: A chance of rain before 9pm, then a chance of snow between 9pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Northeast wind between 3 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
